Vishudda - Throat Chakra

Speak your truth, not a truth. To me this sentence summons pretty much up, what the throat chakra is all about. Their it sits, in the middle of our throat, connected to our vocal cords, our fifth energy center. Humming, singing, speaking, breathing Ujjayi – activates this energy center and balances it.

Most of us are unaware that when we feel like we are suffocating, cannot speak, or cannot stop speaking, it means this energy center is not balanced.

In our society a lot of people talk for the sake of talking, but don’t really say anything. The reason it happened over the years is that people are not really listening to one another. They rather talk over each other. Most never speak about how they truly feel, what is really going on with them, what is important to them, what do they need to feel at peace with themselves. Instead, there is lots of talking about others, outside appearances and ideas they heard from others and pass as their own. No one pauses and speaks about their truth.

How to balance the fifth energy center?

  1.         Pause

  2.         Breathe Ujjayi

  3. Activate Jalandhara Bandha

  4.       Observe more

  5.         Let people finish talking and then reply

  6.         Listen more

  7. .       Practice silence

  8.         Write down what you truly feel and say it out loud

  9.         Practice “OM” in sitting meditation – this is especially important for people who feel that they have lost their voice.

  10.        Concentrate inward and talk about things that are meaningful to you

  11.   Stop gossiping

Namaste!
